Advert lyrics taken from the song: You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Featuring the words ‘Walk on, with hope in your heart’, Macmillan’s new TV advert shows people speaking lyrics from the song ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ by American musical writers Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Although many people here in Britain will mostly associate the song with Gerry and the Pacemakers, You’ll Never Walk Alone actually first appeared in the 1945 musical ‘Carousel’.

Liverpudlian Merseybeat group Gerry and the Pacemakers then released their cover of the tune much later in 1963, with Liverpool FC supporters quickly adopting it as the clubs now famous anthem.

The list of other bands and singers who have recorded the track reads like a who’s who of musical greats, featuring such names as Frank Sinatra, The Righteous Brothers, Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, Doris Day, Barbra Streisand and even Elvis Presley.

You can download Gerry and the Pacemakers, and many other artists versions of You’ll Never Walk Alone from iTunes and Amazon.

The above ‘Not Alone’ advert was uploaded to Macmillan’s official YouTube channel on the 1st of August, 2016.
