Freeview Play TV Advert Music – October, 2015 – Song and singer details for the brand new ‘Set Yourself Free’ TV commercial.
Song Title: I Dreamed a Dream.
Singer: Sarah Kingsmill.
Wow, what an advert! This new Autumn, 2015 commercial from Freeview is enough to make the John Lewis Christmas ads look low budget.
With a running time of 2 minutes, this animated masterpiece features a cover of the Les Miserables’ song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’.
Who sings it I hear you ask? The beautiful new version your listening to is performed by London/Brighton-based singer Sarah Kingsmill. The track doesn’t appear to have been released as a single for download yet, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that changes in the near future.
The advert is set in a dark world of forced TV subscriptions and never-ending upgrades. Amidst this communist-capitalist mash-up state, a small blue screen TV manages to escape the march and grab the attention of a woman and her dog.
Noticing this little TV is not like all the other machines, the pair give chase and eventually find him hiding under a bridge, behind a box.
As the cute telly hands them his remote control, the lady and her canine companion see there’s a bright alternative when it comes to viewing your favourite TV shows. Finally those weird ‘you must conform’ Cat & Budgie Freeview ads make sense.
Uploaded to Freeview’s official YouTube channel on the 2nd of October, 2015, this refreshing commercial specifically promotes Freeview Play – Still subscription free, the service allows users to scroll back through their TV guide to watch shows they may have missed over the previous week.
This video below gives us a special behind the scenes look at the making of the ad, including brief interviews with music producer John Altman and singer Sarah Kingsmill (@sarahkingsmill):
