For some of the younger TV viewers out there, you may be surprised to learn that Two Tribes isn’t just the name of a BBC Two quiz show hosted by Richard Osman, but also a hit 1984 pop song.
Recorded by the British band Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the track proved enormously successful here in the UK, spending 10 weeks at number 1 in the singles charts. Co-written by the groups lead singer Holly Johnson, the songs lyrics express the line-ups take on a potential nuclear war.
Two Tribes is probably equally famous for its controversial music video, which comically depicts a no-holds-barred fight between the then American and Soviet leaders: Ronald Reagan and Konstantin Chernenko.
Following on from ‘Relax’, Two Tribes was the second single to be released from the bands debut album ‘Welcome to the Pleasuredome’.
Now moving on to what this trailer is actually promoting, Deutschland 83 is an eight-part German television series coming soon to Channel 4. Set unsurprisingly in 1983, this spy thriller follows an East German man who is sent by the countries Ministry for State Security, Stasi, to work undercover in the West.
The above trailer was added to Channel 4’s YouTube channel on the 7th of December, 2015 and is currently airing during TV ad breaks.
So when does it start? Channel 4 have now set Deutschland 83’s UK air date and time for Sunday the 3rd of January, 2016, at 9:00pm.
