In a change of formula to their other ‘Tastes Like This Feels’ adverts, Cadbury’s have temporarily swapped the amusing animal videos set to music, for footage of the Leicester City players celebrating their recent Premier League title victory.
The video, which has already featured in numerous news reports, was filmed at Jamie Vardy’s house by the teams Austrian left back Christian Fuchs.
Showing the Foxes players huddled around the strikers big screen TV, the clip captures the moment the players see then title rivals Tottenham draw 2-2 with Chelsea – A result that finally confirmed them as 2015/16 champions.
Sure to go down well with all the teams supporters, the advert finishes with the message ‘Congratulations Leicester from everyone at Cadbury’.
This Premier League season saw Leicester City go from being one of the odds-on favourites for relegation, to becoming the most unlikely champions in football history.
Brands know that aligning themselves with a single football club can be great for their popularity amongst that teams supporters, but can sometimes have the opposite effect on rival fans. For example, I wonder how many Everton and Man Utd fans use Nivea products. However, given the underdog nature of the Foxes win and the clubs current lack of bitter rivals, this ad seems a safe enough bet for Cadbury’s.
