The TV trailer for ITV’s upcoming drama Brief Encounters features a song called ‘Blue Monday’ by the British dance/synthpop-rock band New Order.

Released in 1983, the track reached number 9 in the UK singles chart despite having a very radio-unfriendly running time of seven-and-a-half minutes.

Since its original release, the track has been covered and reworked multiple times, including the bands own 1988 and 1995 remixes.

With an exact air date yet to be announced, ITV’s new six-part drama is due to start sometime this July.

Set in the early 1980’s, Brief Encounters’ cast list will be headed by actresses Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey, North by Northamptonshire), Angela Griffin (Waterloo Road, Lewis), Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders, Dickensian) and Sharon Rooney (My Mad Fat Diary, Mountain Goats).

The series follows these four women as they struggle to find happiness and fulfilment, that is until they enter the world of Ann Summers. That’s right, Pauline, Steph, Nita and Dawn become unlikely entrepreneurs by selling exotic lingerie – much to the dismay of their loved ones.

As is the case with the shows first official trailer, the series is expected to be very much set against the soundtrack of its era.
