To help get viewers in the mood for this years season of festive TV, BBC One have just released their official Christmas 2016 advert.

Rather than simply showing a montage of clips like in their other ‘This Christmas’ trailer, BBC1 instead show children, dogs, families and friends enjoying this magical time of year, finishing with the tagline ‘For the moments we share’.

Now you’ve probably already worked out that the song playing in the video is a cover of Shakin’ Stevens 1985 hit ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, but wondered who’s singing it.

Well the answer to that question is the English female singer-songwriter and musician Lucy Rose. The folk/indie rock artist recorded this acoustic version of the Welsh Elvis’ classic track back in 2012 for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. You can listen to the full length version in the video below.

Despite many of Live Lounge’s performances having been released in compilation albums over the years, we have so far been unable to find Lucy’s cover of Merry Christmas Everyone available to download. Whether or not the songs inclusion in BBC One’s promo ad will trigger its release as a single, we’ll have to wait and see.

The above video was posted to the official BBC YouTube channel on the 4th of December, 2016, having aired just after that nights episode of Strictly Come Dancing.
